Day 23 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I can't wait till I am familiar enough with this subject to really have some fun with it! White on white is always a challenge for me, and the shape of this particular cup is more challenging than the ones with more curves. And the fork - I'm fascinated with trying to paint a fork!

Day 22 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

After two scrapers and some lunch, I stuck with this one. Not exactly what I hoped for, but, hey, it's my first fork!

Day 21 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

As I was playing with this setup I looked down to see my old Black Lab scarfing up the other slices of orange I had planned to add, so this is the meeting that remained.

Day 20 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I think I'm going to have to paint something else for a few days. I'm seeing cows in my sleep!

Day 19 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Painting these sweet faced, curious cows for days in a row really makes me aware of their unique differences. I'm thinking of doing a larger painting with a full line-up once the challenge is over. I've got visions of cheery faces parading through my mind . . .

Day 18 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Another red tag Hereford. I always think they look like they're showing off their "decorations". The recent paintings of all these cute cows, or heifers, I think my husband said, are from a group of photos I took one early summer day in the mountains near my home. It was a small herd and most were quite outgoing. When I see my photos of the groups it's quite fun to imagine their personalities showing through their expression.

Maybe one of these days I'll do a painting with all of them!

Day 17 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I'm not sure if this guy is a Black Baldy or something else, but he sure is cute! I paid attention to the black in sunlight compared to the white in shadow. The white in shadow should still read as, well, white in shadow and be darker, or the same value as, the black in sunlight, which should still be recognizable as black. Not sure I pulled it off, but lots of fun!

Day 16 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I have to admit, I'm more comfortable painting cows than I am painting cups. The planes on cows are so interesting, not to mention their expressions.

This painting was done immediately after yesterday's. Both were painted outside on my deck on a rare warm day for January. The first was done with the palette knife. Between paintings I received an order of new brushes and wasn't going to open them right away. I changed my mind, opened them and, voila, this is the result of new brushes. I hadn't realized how long it had been since using new brushes - so nice to have new ones!

This one was done with palette knife just for something different. Sometimes working with a palette knife keeps me from getting too picky, which I always consider to be a good thing.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

It's New Year's Eve and I'm ready to start painting tomorrow! I've joined a painting challenge. Yikes!

The challenge is to paint 30 paintings in 30 days. The goal of the challenge is to get people to paint more often and to have fun! Both of those are exactly what I need right now.

I've made my plan, even if it is a little vague. I've gathered my materials. I'm a little nervous. I'm excited. I'm ready to go!

My panels

A few props

And the panel holder for these little guys (all paintings will be 6x6)

I'm a little nervous. I'm excited.

Each day I'll post my painting on the challenge website, hosted by Leslie Saeta. I'll also post them here and in Daily Paint Works where they will be for sale.

So stay tuned, hang on and see what happens as we paint through January.

How about you? Have you ever done one of these? Would you do one?

I'm ready to go.
